Description
Welcome to the OpenRoboticPlatform (ORP) Robotics Chassis Kit—a product born from the successful Make/100 Kickstarter campaign. ORP is an innovative project aimed at creating a standardized and open library of parts for hobby and research robotics, making the design and assembly of robot chassis easier and more accessible.
Key Features:
- Standardized Hole Grid: Each chassis plate features a 20x20mm grid of 3.5mm diameter holes, perfectly designed for M3 screws. This uniform grid allows for easy attachment and reusability of various holders and components across different chassis.
- Flexible Design: With all parts and design rules freely shared under the MIT license on OpenRoboticPlatform.com, you can customize your chassis to fit your needs. Approved manufacturing methods include 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC machining.
- Community-Driven: Join a growing community that contributes to an open library of parts.
- High-Quality Materials: The plates are crafted from durable 2.5mm powder-coated steel, with a black bottom plate and your choice of yellow or orange for the top plates. 3D-printed connectors and holders are made from PLA, with TPU used for high-grip wheels.
- Comprehensive Kit: The kit includes all the necessary screws, 3D-printed connectors, motor holders, and TT motors. You’ll need to print additional holders and purchase electronic components separately to complete your robot.

Why Choose ORP?
Building a custom robot chassis from scratch can be time-consuming and complex. The ORP chassis kit provides a ready-to-assemble solution that saves time and effort, allowing you to focus on the more challenging aspects of your project. It’s perfect for beginners, students, hobbyists, and even seasoned makers who want a reliable and versatile platform for their robotics experiments.
How It All Began:
The idea for ORP emerged from a simple need for more accessible and customizable robot chassis. Traditional options were either too expensive or poorly designed. The first ORP chassis was crafted using an IndyMill CNC machine, leading to the development of standardized design rules and an open library of parts. Today, ORP is a thriving community project with over 100 members and 60 parts in the library.
